Preface of Michel Jaupart, General Director of the War Heritage Institute
The Royal Society of the Friends of the Military Museum (RSFMM) has taken the fantastic initiative to relaunch the publication of the Belgian Journal of Military History and I can only applaud this with great enthusiasm. The journal was created just about when the Museum moved into the Cinquantenaire Park and was published until the early 2000s. Publication was then suspended sine die because of a lack of means. We are now witnessing a true renaissance, a revival presenting authors and researchers with a new and multilingual medium, part of a tradition interrupted for far too long. I can only thank the RSFMM and its chairman Mr Philippe Jacquij for this decision and encourage all my colleagues and collaborators to submit articles in order to once again turn the Belgian Journal of Military History into the reference it used to be. Bravo RSFMM and long live the Belgian Journal of Military History! Michel Jaupart WHI Director General |
Introduction of Philippe Jacquij, President of the SRAMA/KVVL
Today, the Royal Friends Society of the Army Museum (SRAMA/KVVL) is taking over publication of the Belgian military history journal. Published in 2001 by the Musée de l’Armée under the title Cahiers belges d’histoire militaire, it has its origins in the Carnets de la Fourragère published from 1924 by the SRAMA/KVVL under the direction of Louis Leconte, Albert Duchesne and Jean Lorette. The WHI and the Chair of History at the Ecole Royale Militaire are the main centre for disseminating military history research in Belgium. SRAMA/KVVL is therefore convinced of the usefulness and duty of continuing such a scientific publication to meet the needs of historians and military history research, and is thus fulfilling its statutory duty to support the influence of the Royal Military Museum and the War Heritage Institute. The journal, which is intended to be eclectic and multilingual, will include a variety of articles on military history in the broadest sense. With this in mind, its columns will be open to Belgian and European scientists. Initially published annually, with abstracts made available on the Internet, and distributed to SRAMA/KVVL members, it will be, like its predecessors, a valuable tool for universities and a source of information for all those interested in military history.
